Body A Float In the Pond...

Thought I beat the local news to this quickie.....a call was received at 7:00 AM this Sunday Morning, May 31st, that a body was floating in Coes Pond. Fire aparatus and Police respond to the scene behind the Bowling Alley on Mills St where the edge of Coes Pond is. With a view of a partial view of a body floating above the water on the other side, it was decided it would be best to access the body on the other side of the pond behind The Knights of Columbus on the pond edge. Fire apparatus encounted an obstacle where the life boat could not fit between the chained fence gate that accessed the beach part of the pond. Apparently they were able to bypass this. Shortly after, all fire vehicles except for one were told to return to station. This was an indication that the body had been pulled by 7:30 AM from the pond. Official report to follow....

WORCESTER — A woman’s body was recovered from Coes Pond this morning, but authorities said it is not Patricia Santos, a city woman who has been missing since May 20. Detective Capt. Edward J. McGinn Jr. said the woman found in Coes Pond this morning, about 20 yards off shore from the Knights of Columbus, is a 65-year-old woman who is believed to have lived in Worcester and most recently in Westboro. It appears she walked into the water on her own and her death is a suicide. Further investigation and an autopsy will be conducted. “There are no indications of foul play at this juncture,” the captain said. A man fishing this morning saw the woman floating in the water. He called for emergency officials and firefighters recovered the body. Police were first concerned the body was Ms. Santos, 36, of 45 Fruit St., Apt. 1. Ms. Santos was last heard from May 20, and her ex-boyfriend was arrested on unrelated charges after driving Ms. Santos’ car May 23.
