Moose Joke......

A call received early Monday morning about a moose that was in some man's yard who tried to scare it back into the woods. Police were responding to the scene when I heard a fellow officer tell the other officer "Don't Look Into The Mooses' Eyes".....I don't know why, but this was something for the funny bone...couldn't stop doing that girly giggle...

Escape Of The Hoodie....

So on this Monday morning at 4:43 AM police responded to a burglar alarm at the gas station located at 690 Grafton St. When Police arrived, there was evidence of an attempted break..exactly 3 mins later a call that a motion burglar alarm was received for Papa Johns at 691 Grafton St (exactly across the street)..Police responded quickly across the street and notice another break-in . A long-haired (possibly a pony tail) male dressed all in black, with a hoodie on and with a backpack was spotted running into the woods behind Papa Johns. Police pursued suspect into the woods and started a search. State Police canine was called in to search the woods for the suspect, but after about an hour and a half of searching through a large perimeter of woods and neighborhood streets, they were unable to locate this person.....one more note, the suspect apparently had transportation but had left it at Papa Johns.....not a car, but a bike...

Oh, Come Sunday Morning in The Laundry Buff....

The wife reported this one as I was busy programming some music for Flaming Oldies....a call is received that the laundry mat next to Erin's Pizza had more than just clothes tumbling in the dryer...apparently, a man doing the laundry only owns one set of clothes. That's right, he was doing his laundry in the e'l natural...I know the economy is tough but the Salvation Army's Goodwill store is only 5 minutes away from the laundry mat...can someone give this guy a lift..on second thought, forget that idea.

Body A Float In the Pond...

Thought I beat the local news to this quickie.....a call was received at 7:00 AM this Sunday Morning, May 31st, that a body was floating in Coes Pond. Fire aparatus and Police respond to the scene behind the Bowling Alley on Mills St where the edge of Coes Pond is. With a view of a partial view of a body floating above the water on the other side, it was decided it would be best to access the body on the other side of the pond behind The Knights of Columbus on the pond edge. Fire apparatus encounted an obstacle where the life boat could not fit between the chained fence gate that accessed the beach part of the pond. Apparently they were able to bypass this. Shortly after, all fire vehicles except for one were told to return to station. This was an indication that the body had been pulled by 7:30 AM from the pond. Official report to follow....

Woman's body found in Coes Pond
By Scott J. Croteau TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFFscroteau@telegram.com

WORCESTER — A woman’s body was recovered from Coes Pond this morning, but authorities said it is not Patricia Santos, a city woman who has been missing since May 20. Detective Capt. Edward J. McGinn Jr. said the woman found in Coes Pond this morning, about 20 yards off shore from the Knights of Columbus, is a 65-year-old woman who is believed to have lived in Worcester and most recently in Westboro. It appears she walked into the water on her own and her death is a suicide. Further investigation and an autopsy will be conducted. “There are no indications of foul play at this juncture,” the captain said. A man fishing this morning saw the woman floating in the water. He called for emergency officials and firefighters recovered the body. Police were first concerned the body was Ms. Santos, 36, of 45 Fruit St., Apt. 1. Ms. Santos was last heard from May 20, and her ex-boyfriend was arrested on unrelated charges after driving Ms. Santos’ car May 23.

Going Back To A Few Past Calls...

Since I have just started this, I just want to go back to what i've heard recently on the scanner. Remember, these are not official accounts of the police call, but what came over the scanner as the calls were dispatched initially....

The first item that I was actually surprised about -

......... was a call that was received that a 11 year old boy was struck by a school bus on Worcester's busiest streets - Belmont St. The police responded to this call and found the boy unconcious. While the officer was calling in the scene, you can hear a female screaming and crying -- it was quite chilling. The surprise was that the Worcester Telegram & Gazzette had no accounting of this incident in the newspaper. I even e-mailed them to tip them off, but to no avail.

A shocking call -

.......A call was received from a woman saying that her male pit-bull dog was attacking the female dog and that the male would not get off the female dog. The caller stated there was blood all over the place. The female dog apparently had pups as well. The Animal Control Unit and other police officers had responded to the call. Once the officers had arrived on the scene they radioed back to dispatch that there was blood all over the place. It was indicated that the male dog had jumped out of the window and starting running towards the busy Grafton Street area near Walgreens. Officers tracked the dog down and cornered it. It was reported back to dispatch that the dog had to be shot to neutralize it. About 4 shots were fired at the dog.

And in this early AM blog -

.............Police responded to a call by a father to get police assistance with his 16 year old son who was having sexual intercourse with a 15 year old girl. Call came in as a domestic abuse situation. Police took 15 yr old girl home to the parents to have a talk with them.....

About This Blog...

Not only am I person who is involved with everyday media, but also a resident and citizen of Worcester, Massachusetts. I am just as concerned as everyone else is about today's economy. I care about where my hard paying money in taxes go to the government on the local, state and federal levels.

I have a fondness for police radio scanning, especially in the second biggest city in New England. I have found too often that the local newspaper, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, pick and choose the stories they wish to publish for Worcester and surrounding towns and cities. I was shocked in how much this newspaper leaves out when it comes to police activity in Worcester, Massachusetts. The calls that have come over the police scanner are intense, shocking and surprising; but yet many of these calls are calls that the citizens of Worcester do not know about.

The blog is to give the readers a general idea of what police activity takes place in the city. You will read about what happens in the police world. I will however, leave out identifying details as most of these calls are not considered official until a police report is filed. There is much confusion and misunderstanding in the nature of many of these police calls when a call is first received and then responded to by the Worcester Police Department. It takes time to sort out a police call and then an official police report is filed.

I try to follow the Police scanner daily, but don't always have the time. For those times I do police scanning, I will blog about the calls that the police are dispatched to, but will leave out identifying information that identifies victims, the accused and the police officers who respond to these calls.

Hope you enjoy the reading...
